One 14-year-old boy was discovered deceased just days following being falsely blamed of taking the cremated remains of a dead baby during a break-in, an inquest has learned.

Heartbreaking Discovery

The young boy's parents discovered his remains in his bedroom at his Connah's Quay home on 19 November 2021.

False Accusations Start

The inquest learned how his mother got a message on 8 November 2021 via social media, from a woman asking if her son was her offspring. The message stated: "Tell him thanks for burgling my flat."

In a testimony read to the proceedings, Lisa Lloyd said the woman had been in the news, claiming her baby's ashes had been taken in a break-in - a claim which was false.

Law Enforcement Investigation

An official inquiry from police later determined the alleged burglary complainant had "lied to police" and "evidence shows that the property was never stolen in the beginning".

Media reports about the alleged stolen ashes generated social media responses, and although the teenager was not identified in the posts, his mother said individuals "knew it was him".

The "online posts were extremely upsetting", she stated.

Mental Wellbeing Effect

She added that her son had been identified with moderate ADHD, and as part of that disorder, other peoples' views really mattered to him.

"This must have hurt him deeply," she said, "particularly when this was not true".

Kai was detained at home, but no evidence was found. He was taken to a police station and later freed under investigation.

Authorities said they would be in contact, the inquest heard, but had failed to reached out to the relatives by the moment of his death.

Withdrawal and Anxiety

His mother said Kai "withdrew into himself" after the detention and "repeatedly inquired me whether I had received anything from the police", because his ADHD meant sometimes "certain periods could feel like days".

When she spoke to him about the supposed burglary, she said her son informed her he had entered the residence because the woman who resided there had said he could utilize the toilet anytime he needed, but refuted removing anything.

Digital Bullying

In a combined testimony between her and her husband, Mrs Lloyd said her son was being bullied digitally after the accusations.

The proceedings learned that a 19-year-old encouraged Kai to end his life.

She had no concerns on the night before he passed away, describing how she had heard him "laughing and teasing".

She portrayed him as a "compassionate, loving" boy, and said her "family is totally devastated".

He had been "clearly concealing his concerns", she said, noting that he could not stand to have anyone "have negative thoughts of him".

School Reaction

The inquest received testimony from educational personnel at Connah's Quay secondary school.

On 8 November, she "overheard some students discussing that Kai had been detained and that was the initial I learned".

"He informed me... he'd was innocent," she continued.

After the discussion, the staff member said she rang the family's parents' telephone and provided a voicemail saying she had spoken to the student about the accusations.

The court learned his parents said they never receive that message.

Official Conclusion

Senior investigator informed the inquest he would await reports regarding what enhancements had been made to dealing with individuals with the condition, before determining whether he should make a prevention of future fatalities report.

Delivering a narrative conclusion, he said: "Approximately November 8th, 2021, unsupported allegations were made against the teenager, a young individual.

"Likely falsehoods were subsequently embellished and amplified through the platform of online networks.

"During November 11th, he was questioned by the police and after his questioning he was released whilst inquiries proceeded."

The official concluded: "Exists no proof that the acts or failures of any organization caused or added to his passing and although it was the result of a personal act it is not possible to determine his intent."
